Our History

FRC is made up of regional and statewide organizations committed to building an equitable and sustainable food system in Maine. Community partners include farmers, artist groups, universities, K−12 schools, restaurants, retail stores, food businesses, research organizations, city councils, state and regional agencies, and food security and public health organizations.

Our History

FRC formed following the highly successful Feeding the 5000 Portland, Maine, an event held on October 7, 2016, in Monument Square. This celebration of fresh local food featured a free bowl of nutrient-dense vegetable stew made from locally grown gleaned and donated produce, cooking demos by prominent local chefs, and educational activities involving creative food rescue.

Coalition efforts span networking and collaboration, data collection and resource dissemination, and educational events and advocacy. FRC convenes throughout the year to create networking opportu

FRC convenes throughout the year to create networking opportunities and build resources for the advancement of food recovery  in Southern Maine.
